What is the one product most of us would not think about leaving the house without? That’s easy: mascara. But with so many products on the market, how’s a girl to choose? Black, brown, volumizing, lengthening, enhancing, multiplying – shopping for makeup isn’t supposed to be stressful! What it really comes down to are your specific wants and needs. Someone with full lashes who wants more length is not necessarily going to be pleased with the results of a mascara used by a longer-lashed lady who lacks volume. As they say: different strokes for different folks. But what if you want more than just mascara? For those who crave supermodel lashes of their very own – your time has come.
The common thread of beauty trends this season is multitasking products. From foundations that heal blemishes to moisturizers that speed cell regeneration, there is a whole new world of products that offer both a temporary fix and a long-term improvement. Lash treatments are no exception. Couture has researched some of the best lash products on the market to bring you the best options for every individual concern.
The Standard: If you want a mascara that gives you length, volume, and curl all in one, a classic choice is Dior’s DiorShow mascara ($24). Sephora.com’s best selling mascara is the original Dior mascara and is used by professional makeup artists all over the world. It comes in basic black, chestnut brown, and azure blue.
The Treatment: Applied nightly on clean lashes, Latisse is a prescription treatment used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. At about $125 for a month’s supply, it is certainly not cheap. But I’ve never met anyone who was displeased with the results of this stuff. They say that after the first month (or when your lashes reach their desired length and fullness), you can decrease use to every other night for maintenance, which saves some money in the long run.
The Multitasker: Tarte MultiplEYE ($24) claims to be “clinically proven to immediately increase the appearance of lash volume by 638%, while also increasing the appearance of lash length with regular use.” It includes a mascara and a lash primer. Reviews of this product were mixed, but mostly positive, with users noticing an improvement in the look of lashes with use of the mascara each day, and the length and fullness of lashes over a period of weeks. Note: this mascara is offered only in black.
The Faker: Inju Fiberwig mascara (which I’ve been using for a year, $24) is the top-selling mascara in Japan, and one of Sephora.com’s bestsellers. The formula creates a long lasting film coat around your natural lashes. Fiberwig imparts a lash extension effect with a water-resistant formula that's easy to remove with warm water, without risking damaging or losing your natural lashes. If you want to get the effect of false eyelashes without the time commitment or hassle, this is the way to go. Note: this mascara is only offered in black.
And a final note for those of you who just can’t get enough drama (when it comes to your eyes): starting with an eyelash curler adds major va-va-voom to even the most resistant eyelashes. I recommend the Shu Uemura curler ($19-24).
Now, go forth and lengthen, volumize, and multiply!
