Moschino in Milan
Moschino’s fall 2010 collection was a kitschy combination of two utterly different women: a garish Texas millionaire and Spanish bolero dancer. The models came down the runway in black cowboy hats and face-obscuring sunglasses. The bold red lip was the only makeup visible. Wide black belts, gold hoop earrings, black tights, and black pumps were the consistent accessories worn with each look. Of the two-pieced looks, high-waisted skirts and cropped jackets were the norm, though fabric and style changed extremely. From a demure grey-striped jacket paired with an ostentatious matching ruffled skirt to a green-and-black striped chinchilla jacket over a matching green blouse bow-necked blouse worn with a black silk-and-lace pencil skirt. The bow-necked theme was one of the bolero statements made throughout the show. Gold and gem embellishments adorned collars, sleeves, and hemlines.
Easily the most overwhelming piece of the collection was a knee-length, high-collared coat made entirely of gold fringe. It was memorable to say the least. The bolero theme was further expressed with ruffles: from watermelon colored tops to asymmetrical skirts, ruffles definitely made a statement. Exposed zippers and tailored leather pieces also served to add edge to Moschino’s looks. Altogether, the collection was a fanciful tribute to a bold woman I’ve never seen before – but would certainly be interested to meet.
